The Storyboard Animatic Project of Learning Pt.9

         So I had finally finished the board I had been talking about,expect I screwed up twice.  Let us take a look.  You know for learning purposes.

First I fixed that problematic part on the left using the techniques mentioned in the previous post.

A little sloppy but it gets the job done. Now to fix the blood.  

This was a lot easier than I thought it would be.  All it required was to eliminate some red, through the black and white adjusters, followed by the eraser tool.

      So, what I haven't admitted to is that I didn't do the drafting tape trick for the previous side.  I was impatient, I had already passed my original deadline, etc.  So I did this.         

For all of the opposite side.

 So to fix this, you clean up the spaces between the black spaces. Using tape and an eraser.  As demonstrated previously.  Then followed by going back over the squares with the pencil.

The reason I do this is so the black spaces look more uniform.  One of the catches to working in pencil is that the direction of your strokes can easily show, especially in situations like this one.  So it really helps make it look professional.

               All right, so maybe it would take a few days before I started light boarding that drawing.  Let’s not get into semantics though.  This time around I am going to talk about using low tack tape and filling in black spaces.

More about this drafting tape thing in part b.  Basically you put the tape along the edges as shown and then go over it with your pencil or pen.

      Annoying, but profoundly effective.   So lets use this technique in another way, shall we.  So place the drafting tape on the edges of an area that you want to erase.Then erase said lines, so furiously that the camera feels it when you stop to take the picture.

Voila! Line gone.  When you find yourself accidently erasing part of the line that you want to keep, don’t fret. Just take your straight edge and touch it up.  Now repeat until they are all cleaned up, or you rage quit which is quite tempting in art.

The Storyboard Animatic Project of Learning Pt. 7

So, here is one of the interesting things I am dealing with process wise.  Here is the board I just finished tonight after work.

            This image is rough.  The mechs are off (to be fixed later), the figures are difficult to read,  The paper is damaged, etc.  I could have not continued with it to this point however it made things easier proccess wise.  Plus any changes and fixing would come across more unified. So this is something that is going to be light boarded. As so.

           Why am I light boarding on my bed?  It is a simple matter of money, workspace, and...

        That thing right there is my former chair.  It is in my profile pic actually.  It is an old chair that you have to use a screw type mechanism to raise, and has metal wheels.  Sadly said metal wheels have been destroying my wooden floor so I have to now sit on my bed to use my light board.  Instead of just in my chair near my work space like a professional.

Edit: This only lasted for a few weeks after posting this.  A friend that lives in my building loaned me a chair to use until I can do something about my old one.

The Storyboard Animatic Project of Learning Pt. 6

              So, as of today, I am trying to steadily work on the final penciled drawings and we know how that goes outside of school.  On a brighter note, I have found out through Tumblr that you can download Adobe CS2 for free!  HELL YEAH!   So I went and downloaded Adobe Premiere Pro 2.   Oh god, am I thankful for having video editing software.

         

              The reason for such exuberance is for referencing, plain and simple.  I can use the editing program to look through the Gangam Style video, frame by frame.  Previously this was only done on SCAD computers, but I haven't had access to them since my last post.  So no more trying to time thepause button on the video players for the poses and references I need.  There is another bonus to having PRemiere Pro as well.

              Now I don't have to try and just guess where my perspective is on these shots.  I can just print out the frame and find it.  So much easier.  Here is an in action shot.

           Also I have finally gotten fed up with the internet connection at my place, and will start buying Legend of Korra episodes off of Itunes.  Hopefully, not that many will be needed since my financial situation hasn't really changed at all.
