The Attempt on Joss Whedon's Fan Mail Pt. 1

      While I was waiting the last video I posted to render I went ahead and started working on my next crazy networking attempt through fanmail.  This one is for Joss Whedon.  So of course here are the thumbnails so far.

         Also I went and found some reference on google.

         So, I have finally finished the 2nd thumbnail run through of my animatic.  Now it is on to the final   drawings.

         I finally have my aspect ration written down, however I am a little iffy about wether or not to use windows or keep on with ow I have been drawing the final images (See previous post).  While it would be nice to use a window and save myself some frustration there are so many camera pans and turns that it could just lead to a lot of frustration.  More than likely I will just mix them up, and see how it goes.
 
         Since I have access to SCAD equipment I also have the option of piecing these together instead of waiting until all are finished to scan them.  However, while that will help me realize bigger problems quicker, it will also slow me down on getting to a finished product.

The Overly Problematic Networking Attempt Finished!!!

      I finally finished it!!!!  The first project I did for this blog and started in September.  As of today it is officially mailed of and done!

        To find the mailing address I searched high and low through the internet.  Eventually I messaged the tumblr of one Bill Rinaldi (http://bill-rinaldi.tumblr.com).  Actually I messaged him twice  and he wound up answering both messages with an address.  So, to say thank you, I sent him one as well.

Now to critique the project:
             
                 - The project itself took too long too long to complete and should not have been this           problematic.  It was wrapped in pieces of a couple of catalogs, instead of a single sheet of paper.  I had to use an exacto knife and a ruler to trim them down, and should have used a paper cutter at a local print shop.

                 - The line work could have been better, and I should have known specifically what I had access to tool wise.  The coloring is bad, and not at all impressive.

                 - I got the mailing address weeks ago, and could have had everything done and shipped within a day.  Instead I was trying to work on the animatic project more.

                 - Also the joke is so old it isn't going to have anywhere near the effect I was originally intending for.

                     However,  I FUCKING FINISHED IT!!!!!!!   WOOOOOO!!!!!   More than anything, instead of letting my complications and shortfalls stop me I can up with the idea, put forth the effort and finished the project!    That is more important than even hearing back from any of the recipients.

The Storyboard Animatic Project of Learning Pt. 4

        So, near the end of the quarter I lost access to the SCAD resources.  So what I did was start to make the final drawings that I knew I needed.  However I was unsure of the aspect ratio and could not remember if I found out what it was or not.  So I just cut left over storyboard templates in half and drew on the back.

   

          I was already planning on drawing on the back of these anyway, just with a windows for the frame.  That way I could make the drawings as big as possible.  Instead I had to draw them smaller so that I would have enough in the frame, and not have to redo the board.  One of the advantages to this is that have more wiggle room with the camera placement.  Also, I would have done this anyway with some of the shots and camera movements.  Here are some of the boards:

         Being the broke son of a bitch that I am, I only intend to use blue line for the perspective so I can save money.  Pencil lead is cheaper.  Working on these I did simple panel shots along with drawing the environment for me to place figures in.  The figures I drew in perspective using my light board.  This step is still in progress.  A couple of weeks ago SCAD came back in session, so I have returned to the buildings to finish up my 2nd Thumbnail runthrough.

The Storyboard Animatic Project of Learning Pt. 3

      So, around the beginning of November, after my first run through of thumbnails in aftereffects I decided to go back and redo a bunch to make them more readable, and to get a much better idea of what I am planning.  This was definitely a smart idea as I am still figuring out what to do.  So some of the images looked like this.

 

                I also decided to take advantage of the capabilities of After Effects and made drawings of the objects and environments that I wanted to animate.  I also realized the I could also reuse my environments for still figures that I am not animating.   So I made drawings like these:

 

                   

              I was working on this up until the end of the quarter, which was a little bit before Thanksgiving, in which case the quarter ended and I was no longer able to use the facilities in the SCAD building.

                 After this point I wanted to save the 30 day trial of After Effects for when I had all of the final images done.  That way I would not have to worry about running out of time to make any changes.  So I decided to work on the images that I know were ready to be finalized in pencil form.
